Department of Sustainable Development encourages positive action to prevent pollution for World Oceans Day 2018

This month, Saint Lucia joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Oceans Day.

 For Immediate Release

The Taiwan Mission from the inception of the Aquaculture Project in Saint Lucia has contributed significantly to the development of aquaculture in Saint Lucia.Noting that global marine fishing stocks have dwindled over recent years, the promotion and development of aquaculture has been identified as priority both nationally and regionally, as a means of increasing food production and security, improving rural income and employment.

The Taiwan Mission has continued to promote the development of aquaculture in Saint Lucia through its project to provide citizens with a healthy source of protein, in line with national agricultural diversification policies.

AS part of their commitment to Aquaculture in Saint Lucia, the Taiwan Mission donated a vehicle (CD80) to the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture Unit officially on May 4, 2018. The vehicle will assist with carrying out daily maintenance at the Union Hatchery. The Department is continuously grateful for this contribution.
